Is this an official BC government app?
No. BC Ember Watch is an unofficial product from Monkey Butler Software Inc. It re-presents public open data on a best-effort basis. It is not affiliated with BC Wildfire Service, Emergency Management BC, or the Province.
Why do I see a disclaimer before the map?
You must acknowledge that the App is information only—not official advice—before using the map. We store that acknowledgement in this browser so you are not asked every visit until the disclaimer text version changes.
Data looks wrong, empty, or out of date
Upstream feeds can lag, drop features, or fail. Try the refresh control and check your connection. Always confirm urgent decisions against official BC Wildfire status, EmergencyInfoBC, DriveBC, and local authorities.
Where are watched fires and my places saved?
In this browser only (local storage). They are not tied to an account and do not sync to other devices. Clearing site data removes them.
What does Play history do?
When a fire is selected or fills the view, Play history rewinds archived satellite heat and official perimeters. Lightning and rain-dryness follow that clock when those layers are on. It is a sequence of saved maps, not live video, and it can lag or be incomplete.
Are the highway cameras live fire cameras?
No. They are DriveBC road stills. Grey slashed pins are cameras DriveBC has switched off. Always check DriveBC before you travel.
Is it free?
Yes. The web app is free to use. Layers may change while the product is under rapid development.
